1. Smoke

However, smoking right after a meal is very bad and if you must do it, you should wait for at least a couple of hours after the meal. Cigarette contain nicotine, a substance that binds to oxygen your body desperately needs for digestion, which makes your body absorb carcinogens. According to several studies, smoking a cigarette after a meal has the same effect as smoking 10 cigarettes at once, and increases your risk of bowel and lung cancer significantly as well.
2. Eating fruit
Consuming fruit should be done before a meal, not afterwards. Fruits require special enzymes to be digested, and the natural sugars in them need more time to be absorbed. Furthermore, eating fruit after a meal can cause digestive problems such as indigestion, heartburn and burping. On the other hand, eating fruit before meals will help your body benefit from all the nutrients, fiber and sugars.
3. Sleep
Going to bed right after having a meal will cause bloating, discomfort and sleeping problems. According to a study from the University of Ioannina Medical School, people who waited for a longer period of time to go to bed after having a meal, had less risk of experiencing a stroke. Try not to eat at least a few hours before going to sleep.
4. Shower
Here’s what you need to know – when we shower, we increase the blood flow in our hands, legs, and body; and decrease the blood flow in our stomach. According to the experts, this weakens the digestive system, causing it to become inefficient, which usually results in stomach problems.
5. Drink Tea
Even though this habit is applied by most people, it isn’t good at all. Tea contains tannic acid – the main ingredient in tea binds with iron and makes digestion difficult, which can be bad for anemic people who should drink it at least one hour before eating.
There are certain things that you must avoid right after having a meal, no matter the temptation. Make sure to make a mental note of the time and leave some space in between eating fruit, drinking tea, or having a cigarette.
